A big ouch for Lincare
August 11, 2017Liz Beaulieu, Editor
The data is starting to trickle in for this year's State of the Industry Report, which we'll publish online in December. One of those pieces of data: the top 100 suppliers by amount allowed by Medicare.
It's always the usual cast of characters in this list, mostly national players, but it's still interesting to see the jockeying for position, as well as the changes in amount allowed, from year to year.
Right off the bat, in this year's list, I noticed that while Lincare still had the No. 1 spot,...
The year in HME News stories
December 30, 2016Liz Beaulieu, Editor
YARMOUTH, Maine - 2016 was the year that HME providers fought back.
The most read story on www.hmenews.com in 2016 was “In wake of cuts, HME providers let chips fall.” When CMS implemented the Round 2 re-compete and the first phase of its nationwide rollout of competitive bidding on July 1, providers directed angry referral sources right to lawmakers. Other providers washed their hands of bid products and services—products and services that they had provided for years.

Two of these providers, Accredo Health Group (specialty pharmacy) and Lincare Pharmacy Services, saw an increase in allowed charges from 2013 to 2014.
Accredo Health: $416 million to $472 million

A show issue, a Special Report and lots of bad news
June 20, 2012Liz Beaulieu, Editor
It's that time of year when the editorial team here at HME News starts gearing up for Medtrade, Oct. 16-18 in Atlanta. See, our September issue is the pre-show issue and our October issue is the show issue/Show Daily Day 1.
To put all of this in perspective: Right now, we're already working on our August issue. That's right, the end of summer is already upon HME News when it has just begun for everyone else!
Anyway, we always run a Special Report in the show issue, so I've been...
The year in HME News stories
December 14, 2010Liz Beaulieu, Editor
It will surprise none of our readers that stories on competitive bidding were the 1st and 2nd most viewed stories on HME News' website in 2010: “CMS releases names of winning bidders,” with 7,734 views; and “CMS announces winning bid amounts,” with 7,012 views. What was surprising to me initially: That our readers seemed to be a little bit more interested in the names of the winning bidders than the winning bid amounts.
This probably has less to do with the lack of...
