ORLANDO, Fla. – Rotech Healthcare recently partnered with Signifier Medical Technologies to offer the eXciteOSA device as an alternative option for OSA, part of the provider’s commitment to serving all patients, says CEO Robin Menchen.
The eXciteOSA device allows daytime treatment for approximately 20 minutes twice a day for the initial treatment period, which is ideal for those patients who cannot tolerate CPAP treatment when trying to sleep, she said.
“Our commitment to patient care means we continue to search for solutions for all patients who suffer from obstructive sleep apnea,” said Menchen. “Not all patients are compliant with CPAP devices or are even willing to try them. Treatment of OSA with a CPAP machine works for many patients, but there are still a significant number of patients with mild to moderate OSA who fail the first 90-day compliance period required by most insurance companies and are then left untreated.”
In 2021, eXciteOSA received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and in January 2024, a new HCPCS code with an established fee schedule for the device took effect.
Those two developments offered a pathway for distribution by companies like Rotech and Spectrum Sleep Solutions, which partnered with Signifier Medical earlier this year after South Carolina’s state Medicaid program approved coverage of the device.
“We’re starting to get more traction in Medicaid in the different states and we're working with managed care organizations with respect to coverage for Medicaid in the different states,” said Yasser Zayni, head of commercial, clinical, and compliance for Signifier. “The eXciteOSA is starting to be accepted by the respective agencies and their respective bodies so we're starting to see the big distributors who are well known in the sleep space (taking an interest).”
