AAH updates supplier numbers

WASHINGTON – AAHomecare’s quarterly supplier number tracking sheet is now available with January 2024 data. AAHomecare monitors the DMEPOS industry by reviewing the list of Medicare enrolled suppliers. The updated tracking sheet continues to show a slight decline from last quarter’s update. The association now estimates there are currently 8,005 traditional Medicare DMEPOS locations across the country. The data shows a 38% decrease in traditional DME supplier locations since 2013....

WASHINGTON – CMS today announced a 9.1% increase for competitively bid DMEPOS items in non-competitive bidding areas and a 6.4% increase for bid items in former CBAs for calendar year 2023, AAHomecare reports.
Non-bid items will receive an 8.7% increase.
Typically, the CPI-U increases for DME have been 1%-3%. Last year, the inflation adjustment was 5% in former CBAs and 5.4% non-CBAs.

WASHINGTON – VGM Government Relations is urging providers to reach out to Rep. Richard Neal, D-Mass., the chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, asking for the DMEPOS Relief Act of 2022 to be included in an end-of-year package.
Introduced in February, H.R. 6641 would extend a 90/10 blended reimbursement rate for the 13 product categories excluded from Round 2021 of competitive bidding through Dec. 31, 2023. The bill currently has 25 co-sponsors.

WASHINGTON – The improper payment rate for DMEPOS was 28.6% from July 2019 through June 2020, a 3.2% decrease from the prior year, according to the latest 2021 Medicare Fee-for-Service Supplemental Improper Payment Data Report from CMS. The improper payment rate varies by product category, AAHomecare pointed out in a bulletin, from 8.8% for power wheelchairs to 40.8% for enteral nutrition. CMS finalizes reimbursement relief in rural areas

WASHINGTON – CMS has published the DMEPOS Final Rule, making permanent the 50/50 blended reimbursement rates in rural areas but failing to provide relief in other areas.

Adjustments differ depending on whether the items serviced are competitive bidding program (CBP) items or in former competitive bidding areas (CBAs). Below is the breakdown:
