Medtrade’s York Schwab steps away
February 12, 2024HME News Staff
ATLANTA – York Schwab is stepping away from his role as show director of Medtrade this year. Schwab, who began working with Medtrade in 2017 and became show director in 2021, will remain with Emerald, the show’s parent company, but will be working on different events. “I’m proud of the work we achieved as a team at Medtrade over the years,” Schwab said. “With the pandemic, and before, to now – Medtrade is in a stronger position. We were able to deliver on...
Dallas ‘perfect venue’ for Medtrade
February 2, 2023John Andrews
Given its central location, mild spring weather, convention facility and role as a major transportation hub for air traffic, Dallas checks all the boxes for Medtrade’s new single-show location March 28-30, show director York Schwab says.
“With one show per year, attendees can set their sights on a single rallying point to launch providers into success for the remainder of the year—thanks to the March scheduling,” Schwab said. “Atlanta served the show well, but...
Medtrade focuses on 'sweet' future

ATLANTA – While many of the HME industry stalwarts may feel nostalgic about Medtrade’s last Atlanta appearance on Oct. 24-26, show organizers prefer to look forward.
Show Director York Schwab describes the current mood as “excitement” from organizers, exhibitors and attendees, yet concedes that each group has unique personal feelings about the show moving to Dallas for Medtrade 2023.
“We understand the nostalgia, but we don’t have the luxury...

PHOENIX – Medtrade West, which took place in April this year not July, was “a little bigger, a little different and a lot cooler,” says Show Director York Schwab.
Medtrade West once again kicked off on Monday night in the exhibit hall with the “Welcome to Phoenix Preview Night,” but this year, officials concentrated show floor hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
“Show traffic has been steady,” Schwab said. “Rather than starting...
Medtrade to become once-a-year event

PHOENIX and ATLANTA – Emerald will combine Medtrade West and Medtrade East into one event in 2023, says Show Director York Schwab.
The change is in response to years of “consistent feedback” from exhibitors and attendees, he says.
“It’s the No. 1 thing I’ve seen on every survey,” he said.
This year, Medtrade West takes place this week in Phoenix and Medtrade East takes place Oct. 24-26 in Atlanta.
Schwab says neither a...
It’s almost always sunny in Phoenix
February 28, 2022John Andrews
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Temperatures for Medtrade West at the Phoenix Convention Center, April 4-6, are almost certain to be milder than last year, but the business atmosphere promises to be just as hot, says Show Director York Schwab.
“Phoenix was definitely a welcome change from the bustle and expense of Las Vegas,” Schwab said. “We did have complaints about the mid-July heat, but we’re now back to our normal spring timing and the average temperatures will be low...
Industry gets ‘back to normal’ at Medtrade East
October 19, 2021Theresa Flaherty, Managing Editor
ATLANTA – Finding new products, booking new business and making new connections was back in full swing at Medtrade East.
“With the exhibitors and the attendees we have here, people are ready to get back to normal,” said Show Director York Schwab. “I think we’ve shown there is no substitute for face-to-face interaction.”
The newly rebranded Medtrade East at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta kicked off on Monday with a full day of educational sessions,...
Atlanta show rebranding emphasizes region over season
August 31, 2021John Andrews
The HME industry’s largest trade show has been rebranded as Medtrade East to reflect geography instead of the time of year it is held. Following the July premier of Medtrade West in Phoenix, Medtrade East at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta Oct. 18-20 is being presented as a regional contrast rather than the previous emphasis on spring and fall.
“Many people unofficially called the Atlanta show ‘Medtrade East’,” show director York Schwab said about...
Medtrade West Day 2: ‘You can’t shovel too much sunshine’
July 13, 2021Theresa Flaherty, Managing Editor
I asked show director York Schwab this morning how his first Medtrade was going and whether such a big undertaking was daunting.
Unfortunately, I inadvertently cut off the first part of his video, but to paraphrase, he said it had been a challenge in many ways, with the original date pushed from April to July, and so many unknowns even in recent weeks, as rules and regs keep changing. He gave a lot of credit to Medtrade/Emerald staff for their ability “to pivot.”
He loves Phoenix...
'Back to business'
May 28, 2021John Andrews
PHOENIX – The organizers of Medtrade West are taking a bold step toward returning the HME industry to normalcy by holding an in-person trade show in Phoenix July 12-14. The live event coincides with a rebranding and relocation of Medtrade’s adjunct spring show and boasts a new associate show director in York Schwab.
“We are definitely seeing overall pandemic numbers trending in the right direction and tens of millions have already been vaccinated,” Schwab said about why...
