WASHINGTON - Sept. 22 is “National Falls Prevention Awareness Day,” and HME providers should take the opportunity to alert their local media and highlight the role they play in preventing falls, says AAHomecare. “Falls are a leading cause of injuries, hospitalizations and death among older Americans,” Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.), Chairman of the Senate Special Committee on Aging, said in a statement. The Senate recently passed a resolution declaring the day. “Fall prevention programs are a solid investment that save people's lives and help curb billions of dollars in federal spending on treatment costs.”
