RoundTable is A-OK with OBX

BARCO, N.C. – With patients in the Outer Banks region of North Carolina needing to drive as much as an hour to get DME, RoundTable Health Care saw an opportunity to expand – and help an underserved population, says Joeli Olson, COO. 

In August, RoundTable opened a location in Barco, N.C., strategically located to serve not only the Outer Banks, but also the heavily populated – and growing – areas of Chesapeake Bay and Virginia Beach, Va. 

“We learned that DME was not something that was easily obtained, especially in the Outer Banks, and those further south islands like Buxton and Ocracoke,” said Olson. “Patients in hospitals would spend a couple of days waiting for equipment to be discharged to go home. That’s a huge burden on the health care system, paying for a room in a hospital where you could pay (much less) for basic equipment like oxygen to go home with.” 

The Barco location is the third for RoundTable Health Care, which is a sister company to Mountaineer Home Medical in Morgantown, West. Va., and Cumberland, Md. 

RoundTable Health Care, which will celebrate its 20th anniversary in December, is respiratory-focused, providing oxygen, nebulizers, CPAP and invasive and non-invasive ventilation, along with some DME like beds, walkers and wheelchairs. 

“We stick to what we do well and that’s respiratory,” said Olson. 

As a mom-and-pop provider, RoundTable Health Care prides itself on providing high-quality, customized care, something that Olson says the nationals don’t seem to do. 

“There were a lot of complaints that they've not been serviced well by national companies, so we just looked at it as an opportunity to bring our little locally owned and operated model to another demographic and another region,” she said. “It does cost more with our model, but we do it right and we keep these patients long term. We’ve never lost focus of what is important to us.”
