WASHINGTON - The Medicare Evidence Development and Coverage Advisory Committee agreed that there is a need for COPD patients to access the respiratory device that is best suited for their condition, during a virtual meeting last week, according to AAHomecare. The committee met to discuss the use of noninvasive positive pressure ventilation for COPD patients and to advise CMS on coverage criteria for devices such as CPAP, BiPAP and ventilators. The committee also agreed there is no evidence to support a requirement for four hours of use for CPAP and there is no evidence to support setting a time requirement. CMS will be reviewing MEDCAC's discussions.
