Diabetes provider chases HMO market

MIAMI - Advanced Affordable Diabetics has added a wholesale division to provide lower cost products to certain HMO members, it announced Oct. 25.
Advanced, which is currently contracted with two HMOs, will provide glucose meters at no cost to members, it stated in a press release. The provider will also offer technical support and customer service.
“Our goal is to promote proper testing and quality control,” stated Ileana Miranda, president of Advanced, in the release.
Advanced is primarily a mail-order provider of diabetes testing supplies for the underinsured and uninsured.
Also in October, the provider received the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce's Small Business of the Year Award for its work promoting diabetes awareness. Advanced hosted a three-day South Florida Health and Wellness Expo that promoted awareness of Miami-area providers and provided free diabetes screenings.
“We believe it is important to inform diabetics and their loved ones about the risks of not testing regularly and to provide them with quality, affordable supplies that will allow them to do so,” stated Miranda.
