Amigo Mobility biography released

Al ThiemeBRIDGEPORT, Mich. – Amigo Mobility and its founder Al Thieme are the subject of a new book called There Must Be a Better Way. Written by Henry Dominguez, who has also written several books about Ford Motor Company, the biography delves into the journey of how Thieme not only invented the Amigo power operated vehicle (POV) but also changed the mobility industry for countless number of people with disabilities, and includes interviews with Rascal Founder Mike Flowers and The Scooter Store Founder Doug Harrison. "There Must Be a Better Way has been years in the making, recounting stories from my past that brought both laughter and tears," said Thieme. "My dream for people who read this book is that they are inspired to never stop finding a better way." After witnessing the loss of a family member’s independence and spending countless evenings working in his garage, Thieme invented the first ever POV — the Amigo, which means ‘friend” in Spanish – and founded Amigo Mobility in 1968. Today, Amigo Mobility is still manufacturing POVs for people with disabilities in Bridgeport, Mich., and Thieme will celebrate his 55th anniversary leading the company this year. He works alongside his wife Beth Thieme, CEO, two children Jennifer and Jordan, and a team of more than 130 employees.
