ADA asks USPS to get back to business

ARLINGTON, Va. - The American Diabetes Association has asked the U.S. Postal Service to reinstate its delivery standards after reports of mail delays across the country.
In a letter to USPS Postmaster Louis DeJoy, the ADA, along with 20 other national health groups, including the American Cancer Society, the American Lung Association and the Arthritis Foundation, says it is concerned about the effect delays could have on the more than 133 million Americans who rely on the mail for life-saving medications.
“To ensure the safe and timely delivery of critical medications, we urge you to restore altered package operations and reinstate delivery standards to ensure timely delivery of packages,” states the ADA. “By going further than suspending the changes and returning to the status quo, we can ensure that all Americans get the access to the health supplies they need.”
In 2019, the USPS shipped more than 1.2 billion prescriptions. In March 2020, mailed prescriptions increased by 21% because of the coronavirus.
