When the AAHomecare “Stand Up for Homecare” reception convenes on Tuesday, Oct. 21, President Tom Ryan promises an event with “pop and flair,” including the presentation of the Homecare Champion Award to recognize an individual who shows outstanding leadership on grassroots industry issues.
As the HME industry faces the biggest challenges in its history, the need for provider involvement is greater than ever, Ryan says, pointing to the influx of new capital, new companies and business-minded individuals who see opportunity.
“It is good to see some new faces in HME—they're coming in because they see a dynamic, growing industry with favorable demographics and opportunity,” he said. “We need these new faces to come to this event so they can meet the leaders and become a 'Who's Who' of the industry.”
Along with socializing, networking and advocacy, “Stand Up For Homecare” is, at its heart, a fundraiser. Patron donations go toward HME publicity campaigns, grassroots networking, Capitol Hill lobbying and collaboration with patient and consumer groups to expand awareness and support fair Medicare policies.
“There is an overreaching in the amount and backlog of audits,” he said. “We are fighting to have an audit initiative in place that would fix the problems.”
