Stanfield eyes retirement

Although Wayne Stanfield has been with the Home Care Alliance of Virginia almost since its inception nearly 35 years ago, many in the HME industry will remember his role as a player on the national advocacy stage, as president and CEO of the National Association of Independent Medical Equipment Suppliers.

Stanfield founded NAIMES in 2007 to give independent providers a voice, before it merged in 2013 with AAHomecare.

“I enjoyed the politics at the time, but with Tom Ryan taking over AAHomecare, it was the perfect time to exit,” said Stanfield. “That’s worked out well and Tom has done an extraordinary job. They are more effective than ever.”

Stanfield has stayed active on a state level, both in Virginia and in the states where there are provider members of HCAV, and remains involved with AAHomecare, he says.

“I still make my calls to senators and congressmen,” he said. “Not having to travel and do Hill visits (is nice).”

Speaking of travel, Stanfield, who says he hasn’t attended Medtrade recently may make this year’s show, but he’s also looking forward to retiring soon.

“I am enjoying doing what I’m doing with HCAV, but I’m looking forward to putting my feet up,” he said.
