Pastor sentenced to seven years for Medicare fraud

LOS ANGELES - The owner of a medical equipment supply company has been sentenced to 87 months in prison for a power wheelchair scam that defrauded Medicare out of $11 million, according to local news reports. Pastor Charles Agbu paid patient recruiters and doctors to provide false prescriptions for power wheelchairs, then charged the government agency as much as $6,000 a piece for the devices, which he billed through his company, Bonfee. Five others faced charges for the same scheme. The California court ordered Agbu to pay $5,788,725 in restitution to Medicare.
