WASHINGTON – The House of Representatives last week passed a bill, the Advancing Telehealth Beyond COVID-19 Act, to expand telehealth services. The bill seeks to continue a number of telehealth policies established during the public health emergency through Dec. 31, 2024. Among other things, the bill expands the practitioners eligible to furnish telehealth services, removes geographic requirements and expands originating sites. The bill passed in the House by a large margin, 416-12, and now moves to the Senate. A previous bill signed by President Biden earlier this year extends telehealth services for 151 days beyond the PHE. Complex rehab stakeholders, in particular, have lobbied for these services to be extended to ensure that physical therapists and occupational therapists can continue to conduct remote wheelchair evaluations when appropriate.
