Two groups promote competitive bidding

WASHINGTON - The National Coalition on Health Care (NCHC), a reform group comprised of patients, providers and physicians, has endorsed competitive bidding, describing the HME industry as “a high risk claims category,” AAHomecare alerted members in a Nov. 14 bulletin. The association stated that the NCHC's proposals “represent continuing false impressions” about the HME industry, and it has sent the group a detailed rebuttal. Additionally, the Center for American Progress, a Washington think tank, has proposed that competitive bidding be applied to all healthcare products, including medical devices, O&P, lab tests, imaging and more. AAHomecare urged stakeholders to contact lawmakers in the final days of Congress to get their support for H.R. 6490, a bill that would replace competitive bidding with a market-pricing program (MPP).
