DALLAS – The mood among both attendees and exhibitors at this year’s Medtrade was optimistic, with new opportunities driven by new products and new technology the main theme.
Provider Trini Valdez came to Medtrade for the dozens of educational sessions across nine tracks, for the products, and for “anything” that he can bring back to the office to help it make money.
“Every year, I leave with something to develop into opportunities, and I leave here excited,” said Valdez, director of sales & business development for BritKare Medical in Amarillo, Texas, who has been coming to Medtrade since he started in the industry in 1997. “It pumps me up.”
This year’s show, the third in a row at the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center in Dallas, took place amid extremely cold temperatures in a city more known for warmth.
Still, despite the chill, energy and spirits remain high, says Associate Show Director Kerry Tyler.
“We had a busy day of educational sessions on day one and the opening of the expo floor has continued that momentum,” she said. “The expo floor is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and we hope to finish strong with another day of networking and finding new products.”
On the expo floor, which featured nearly 300 exhibitors, Medtrade also brought back last year’s popular Tech Talks, 30-minute interactive sessions highlighting trending technologies. Patricia Mastandrea, who came to Medtrade to see how technology “has grown,” said Tech Talks was a must-see for her.
“I think technology is going to drive this industry in terms of products and people,” said Mastandrea, CEO of MedCare Equipment Company in Greensburg, Pa. “AI is the future for products and patient outcomes and engagement.”
Traffic on the expo floor was steady on day one, said exhibitors.
“I think everybody is looking to try to get cash retail stuff, different than their normal Medicare and insurance-billable items,” said Steve Wakser, senior vice president of sales North and South America for Drive DeVilbiss Healthcare. “They’re looking for an alternative revenue source.”
Exhibitor Dignity Lifts – Toilet Lifts comes to Medtrade every year “without fail,” says Tom Nardone.
“This is the only show where we can meet all of the DMEs,” he said. “I think the industry is strong. People need what we offer.”
Save the date: Next year, Medtrade takes place March 2-4 in Phoenix.
