Pass the Pepto. Healthcare reform targets oxygen

The news coming out of Washington on healthcare reform keeps getting worse for HME. This little nugget of coal came in late Tuesday evening from AAHomecare:

The reform proposal would eliminate the first-month purchase option for all power wheelchairs, and AAHomecare expects that cuts to other programs such as oxygen therapy will be added to the reform bill in order to help defray its cost.  The Health Subcommittee is scheduled to meet again on Thursday, June 25 to iron out issues brought up in the full committee meeting.

When it comes to oxygen reimbursement, it feels like the industry has been pushed out of a plane without a parachute. I would not expect a soft landing.
