WASHINGTON - Medicare will pay the way for participants in a Diabetes Prevention Program run by the YMCA in 17 communities, according to an article from The NonProfit Times. The program, typically fee-based, will be free for 10,000 qualifying Medicare enrollees over the next three years. The initiative as a whole is expected to save Medicare an estimated $4.2 million during the period, and $53 million over six years, according to the article. Funding for the project is through a Health Care Innovation Award from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMMI).
