DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Discountmedicalsupplies.com has capped off a “phenomenal” year by adding a pediatrics division to its website.
“Pediatrics is a huge market that is underserved and ignored,” said CEO John Solomon. “I felt that by bringing this to market, we could serve many children.”
In October, Discountmedicalsupplies.com added about 400 products in 12 categories geared toward pediatric patients. In conjunction with the launch, the provider also announced plans to donate up to $30,000 to three south Florida children's hospitals over the next year.
The company believes in giving back, said Solomon (see related story, this page).
“We try to do good in the community,” he said. “We've consistently sponsored events and made donations. We are trying to shift more toward donating supplies, because we think that's what they need.”
Discountmedicalsupplies.com is a physician-owned company founded by Dr. Jon Segal, who worked as a healthcare consultant for many years.
“I was looking for a way to get people better products at an affordable price because they were getting squeezed,” said Segal, CEO.
The website offers more than 40,000 products at a discount of 40% to 50% lower than retail, as well as educational content.
“We establish really good relationships with the vendors and negotiate the best price possible,” said Segal.
Discountmedicalsuplies.com processes between 3,000 and 4,000 orders per month—strictly cash pay. The majority of its customers are concentrated in Florida, New York, New Jersey, California and Texas; the provider recently shipped 100,000 copies of its first product catalog in an effort to grow the business.
One market it especially likes: the Latino market.
“In Latino homes, they don't put their elderly in nursing homes,” said Solomon. “They live in one house and they are a very loyal customer base.”
