MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Dollar Diabetic Supply is trying to do for diabetes supplies what the Dollar Shave Club is doing for razors.
“We're helping people who just don't have the money to pay $50, $60, even $200 a month for supplies,” said Jeremy Jordan, content manager.
As part of the program, customers choose a plan based on how many times they test per day (from one to six), and receive a shipment that includes Dollar Diabetic's self-branded strips, lancets and control solution. The first shipment also includes a meter with carrying case and lancing device.
Prices range from $20.97 to $77.97 per 90-day shipment.
“People are usually paying for big brand supplies so they are paying more than they should,” said Jordan. “They can be getting supplies for less that work just as good.”
By keeping overhead low and buying in bulk the provider is able to offer its customers low pricing, says Jordan.
Since its May launch, Dollar Diabetic Supply's Facebook page has garnered nearly 3,000 likes, driven in part, by a contest that will award free supplies for a year to five winners. The provider is also establishing itself as a resource for its customers. Users to its Facebook page can get recipes, healthy living and exercise tips, and diabetes-related news.
Dollar Diabetic is also developing a fast food dining guide that it will include in future supply shipments, says Jordan. The guide will enable people to make informed food choices.
