There are a lot of great state HME associaton executive directors out there, but none more dedicated than Beth Bowen, who leads the North Carolina Association for Medical Equipment Suppliers (NCAMES). That's why it was nice to see Beth's hard work on behalf of HME providers—both in and outside N.C.—recognized this week by the Association Executives of North Carolina, which awarded Beth its Outstanding CEO Award for 2008-2009. The award is the association's highest honor for an association chief executive.

In an email to her members (she also works with the Virginia Association of Durable Medical Equipment Companies), Beth wrote:
Dear NCAMES and VADMEC Boards:
I hesitate to send this along because it can appear self serving…but at the same time I am proud of my accomplishments and without a strong support system in your work with me, this would never have been possible! Furthermore, this group (Association Executives of NC) that I am involved in on my own time is something I do to better myself as an association leader and as a productive citizen. To top it off, while I was here at Heartland, VGM presented me with a plaque commemorating this award while I stood above the entire show floor. John Gallagher, Ron Bendell and Van Miller were on hand for the presentation. It is a special honor to be recognized amongst my peers and my industry.

And thank you, Beth. Your tireless advocacy is greatly appreciated.
