Q. Where can I find industry resources when I need help?
A. For home medical equipment suppliers, there are relevant national and state-level associations that provide a platform for companies to come together, share knowledge, advocate for industry needs and collectively address challenges.
AAHomecare works at the national level. The organization is focused on presenting the story of HME’s value in the health care continuum to payors and regulators. By representing suppliers on the national stage, AAHomecare successfully serves as their collective voice when advocating for issues like better reimbursement or policy changes. The result of these advocacy efforts can bring significant benefits to individual companies while contributing to the growth and advancement of the industry as a whole.
The national association also offers the industry a forum for education through Medtrade. Its website includes a great library of resources, as well as links to state associations with a more localized focus addressing specific regional needs and concerns. State-level trade associations offer networking opportunities and educational resources for companies operating within their area.
State associations also engage in advocacy work – which is likely to include opportunities for individual involvement. An active role in these trade organizations can be a smart strategic move. It not only helps further your own organization's interests but also positions you as a thought leader and contributor to the improvement and progress of your industry.
Membership in these associations gives visibility and access to trends, regulatory changes and best practices. The cost of membership is minimal compared to the benefits and resources they offer.
