Make no mistake: CMS is chomping at the bit to resume medical review, prior authorization and other enforcement actions to root out bad actors. As it stands, they plan to resume business-as-usual on Aug. 3, 2020.
CMS will scrutinize the claims suppliers are creating today, particularly those with the CR modifier, indicating application of the relaxed enforcement standards during the public health emergency. That is why suppliers must:
- Adapt intake and eligibility processes to properly apply the relaxed standards.
- Incorporate CMS’s rapid-fire changes and clarifications.
- Prepare for re-entry to regular eligibility, documentation and review standards.
Is your staff properly applying the modified standards currently in place? Can your claims withstand the coming audits? Do you have a post COVID-19 plan?
To ensure your house is in order before the inevitable CMS inquiries begin, join us to learn to:
- Screen respiratory product orders and medical records using the pandemic-relaxed medical necessity threshold.
- Include the correct modifiers (e.g. CR and KX) and narratives for successful claim processing.
- Transition pandemic patients when the relaxed standards end.
- Develop an audit response strategy to avoid recoupments (or worse).
