Briefs: More execs terminated at Scooter Store

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - About a dozen executives are no longer Scooter Store employees, the San Antonio Express-News reported May 3. The management changes come on the heels of CEO Doug Harrison's resignation in March. In January, Chief Financial Officer Tom Shaw and Chief Sales Officer Mike Pfister left the company. Mark Leita, The Scooter Store's vice president of external relations and government affairs, told the Express-News the company was “streamlining” its management team “as part of an ongoing effort to position the company to better meet current and future changes.”

NRRTS redefines CRTS, RRTS credentials

WALSENBURG, Colo. - Effective May 7, NRRTS has changed the “S” in its CRTS and RRTS credentials to mean “Specialist” instead of “Supplier.” NRRTS registrants who have earned the Certified Complex Rehab Technology Specialist (CRTS) and Registered Complex Rehab Technology Specialist (RRTS) credentials will not need to do anything differently following the change. NRRTS hopes the shift will better reflect a registrant's role in the complex rehab service delivery process.

Wheelchair policies need review, researchers say

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Recent changes in Medicare reimbursement policy, including competitive bidding, may be contributing to a sharp increase in the number of wheelchair breakdowns, according to a study released in April by the American Journal of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. About 53% of wheelchair users reported one or more breakdowns that required repairs per six-month period from 2006-11, up from 45% from 2004-06, according to the study.

101 Mobility opens 17th franchise, third in Texas

AUSTIN, Texas - 101 Mobility has opened a new franchise, the provider announced April 24. Husband and wife team Bruce and Debra Dowden will sell, install and service ramps, stair lifts, automobile lifts, patient lifts, vertical lifts, and barrier-free baths, and offer home modifications. Other 101 Mobility franchises in the state are in the Houston and San Antonio areas. This newest franchise is the 17th for 101 Mobility, which began signing franchisees in Sept. 2010.

Medsource launches new website for new audience

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Medsource Supply and Service in April launched a website, medsourcesupply.com, to sell mobility and accessibility equipment, accessories and supplies direct to consumers. The provider already offers mobility equipment and service to Veteran's Administration hospitals and community organizations.
