Provider lends Helping Hand

Helping Hand Medical Supply recently signed contracts with three skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) to do CPAP set-ups. It was a natural fit for the company, which already provides DME and respiratory products and services in SNFs.

"We're looking to take care of the sickest of the sick," said Greg LoPresti, vice president and COO. "We want the patients that have from 10 to 40 prescriptions from (multiple) prescribers. When you have that many prescribers, you're chance of medication errors goes up exponentially. We are looking to be their one pharmacy."
Upstate patients can order prescriptions online or via e-mail; it also offers home delivery. For now, the pharmacy will focus on oral medications, although it may expand to some over-the-counter items in the future.

Provider drops in on CPAP

Earlier this year, HMS opened up its software program for supply replenishments to other providers. The program notifies HMS when CPAP patients are eligible for new supplies. Employees then call patients and evaluate whether they need supplies. If they do, HMS ships orders.

"Children who snore, have problems falling asleep, are difficult to wake in the morning, or who fall asleep in school should be further evaluated for sleep disorders," she says.
Meltzer was the lead author of a study called "Prevalence of Sleep Disorders in Pediatric Primary Care Practice." Her research was presented June 8 at Sleep 2009, the 23rd Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.
