New Hampshire: Medicaid springs rate cut on providers


CONCORD, N.H. – If only it was an April Fools’ joke. Providers here learned in late March that the state would slash Medicaid rates about 20% on most HME products beginning April 1.

There's a lot of talk about Medicare in the HME industry, but increasingly, when I'm on the phone with rehab providers, I'm hearing a lot about Medicaid. Here's the thing with Medicaid: It does what Medicare does then, usually, takes it up a notch. That's rarely ever good news for providers.

There was a reader essay in my local Maine Sunday paper yesterday: a goodbye to a "much-loved" cat. The cat, a 16-year-old Siamese, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

A bill making the rounds in Ohio would exempt prosthetics from the DME category and make private insurance companies provide the same coverage for limbs as Medicare and Medicaid.
