STUART, Fla. – Liberator Medical posted sales of nearly $17.5 million for its fiscal third quarter ended June 30, 2013. That’s an increase of 16.9% compared to the same period last year, the company stated in an earnings report released Aug. 9.

Insulet hits financial milestone

BEDFORD, Mass. – Insulin pump maker Insulet reported revenues of $60.1 million for the second quarter ended June 30, 2013, an 18% increase compared to the same period last year. Gross profit was $26.8 million, compared to $22.3 million.

I have a new twitter follower. It's none other than John Brooks, the CEO of Joslin Diabetes Center.

Call me a dork, but that was pretty exciting for me. Joslin is a big name in the diabetes world, big as in BIG. In fact, I've been following them on twitter myself.

Yes, after much ado, I got the strips for my new meter. The insurer would still only authorize 1/3 of the prescription but I was so beaten down and discouraged (in other words, right where they wanted me) that I took it.

Why is health insurance so costly? I think part of it may that insurers require a lot of money to develop convoluted and arcane mathematical algorithms to try and squeeze every dollar out their subscribers.
