Add prison inmates to the growing list of niche populations for sleep apnea.

Executive director Ed Grandi, executive director of the American Sleep Apnea Association, gave a talk at a conference attended by health care providers who work with incarcerated adults and adolescents.

Provider lends Helping Hand


Helping Hand Medical Supply recently signed contracts with three skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) to do CPAP set-ups. It was a natural fit for the company, which already provides DME and respiratory products and services in SNFs.

Provider drops in on CPAP


Earlier this year, HMS opened up its software program for supply replenishments to other providers. The program notifies HMS when CPAP patients are eligible for new supplies. Employees then call patients and evaluate whether they need supplies. If they do, HMS ships orders.

So a provider contacted HME News today, hunting around for CPAP utilization data. He believes the CPAP compliance requirements that went into effect in November 2008 have eliminated 30% of his patient roster.
