There was a nugget of encouraging news at this week's MED Group Respiratory Summit in Jacksonville. There's a rumor floating around that CMS could take another look at its most recent set of rules for CPAP.

At lunch today I was asked what topics I cover for HME News.  My main beat is, of course, specialty providers, including CPAP and sleep issues, hence my appearance at the respiratory spoke of the MED Group's Leadership conference here in Jacksonville.

Provider drops in on CPAP

Health Management Services (HMS) launched a new company in August to help fellow providers increase their CPAP supply replenishments.
Earlier this year, HMS opened up its software program for supply replenishments to other providers. The program notifies HMS when CPAP patients are eligible for new supplies. Employees then call patients and evaluate whether they need supplies. If they do, HMS ships orders.

Provider lends Helping Hand

Helping Hand Medical Supply recently signed contracts with three skilled nursing facilities (SNFs) to do CPAP set-ups. It was a natural fit for the company, which already provides DME and respiratory products and services in SNFs.

There's a new show on TNT called "Men of  a Certain Age." Apparently, one of the characters, Owen, uses CPAP, or as the case may be, doesn't use it. I don't watch the show and couldn't find a link to the episode. I found a promo clip, however.

It's been just over a year since Medicare's new compliance requirements went into effect for CPAP. Over the past year, I have checked in regularly with CPAP providers to see how its going. For the most part, providers take the good with the bad and simply try to take care of patients.
