YouTube: Another way for providers to get their names out there

ESCONDIDO, Calif. - It started out as a lark, but having a YouTube video has generated some calls for provider Paul Bernou.

“It's absolutely free, which is one of my favorite things,” said Bernou, owner of AccuCare Home Medical Equipment in Escondido, Calif. “And you're always looking for ways to get your name out there.”

Bernou provided equipment photos and contact information to Yellow Book, an online yellow page directory, which created the 36-second spot. The video can be viewed through Yellow Book's channel and is searchable on the YouTube website.

These days, more providers are turning to YouTube to get their names out there, says Elizabeth Mansfield, president of Outsource Marketing Solutions. Setting up a YouTube channel in the company's name creates an online presence even when the provider doesn't have its own website.

“It's a huge addition to a provider's overall marketing efforts,” she said. “It boosts a company's ability to be found to a whole other level.”

Mansfield recommends providers make their own videos featuring a patient testimonial or an HME how-to.

While he's happy with the YouTube video, Bernou still engages in more traditional forms of advertising, including brochures, direct mailings, e-mail blasts and ads in local circulars.

And of course, nothing beats “old fashioned, shoe leather marketing,” he said.
