Sunrise Medical relocates distribution center, Jay

LONGMONT, Colo. - Sunrise Medical is moving one of its three distribution centers from Atlanta to Memphis, effective July 22 and relocating its seating and positioning products manufacturing from here to facilities in Fresno, Calif. and Tijuana. The Jay relocation will take place over the next several months. The Memphis facility will serve as the south-central hub for all Sunrise Medical products and as complement to the company's other distribution facilities in Harrisburg, Penn., and Fresno, Calif. At 100,000 square feet, the Memphis facility will be the largest Sunrise distribution center and is almost twice as large as the 52,000 square-foot center in Atlanta. Sunrise said the facility will be able to reach 94% of its continental U.S. customer base within two days, a 14% improvement over its current two-day delivery capability. "It's true that we were faced with the termination of our lease," said Lori Thompson, Sunrise's director of marketing. "But we also needed twice the space. From Memphis, we'll be able to get to Texas and the Midwest in two days." Sunrise moved its distribution center from Dallas to Atlanta two-three years ago. HME
