ST. LOUIS – With its new Purify O3 ozone sanitizer, Responsive Respiratory is making it cheaper for CPAP users to sanitize their equipment, while giving providers a competitive edge, company officials say.

While competing sanitizers sell for up to $319, the MAP pricing for the Purify O3 is $189.

“(The competition) is hitting the top 25% of income earners and we’re at 50%,” said Tom Bannon, president of Responsive Respiratory. “The majority of the population doesn't make that kind of income, so the $189 price is more realistic, and it does the same process—same sanitation.”

The Purify O3, which uses ozone technology to disinfect CPAP and BiPAP equipment, comes as a kit—no adapters, filters, pre-wash solutions or replacement bags required—killing 99.9% of bacteria and germs in 35 minutes. It also features a compact and lightweight design with a rechargeable Lithium-ion battery for at home use or on-the-go.

Unlike other sanitizers, which are sold direct to the consumer, the Purify O3 can only be purchased through providers.

“If you go to our website, the patient cannot place orders—period—and that was done on purpose,” said Bannon. “We appreciate the relationship that we have with our providers. They established us and that's what we're here for. It’s a two-way street.”

Responsive Respiratory, which manufactures oxygen products, entered the CPAP market because its customers asked it to, says Bannon, and the Purify O3 is just the beginning.

“We're getting questions for different items, ‘Can you do this? Would you think about adding that?’ and we’re looking at it all,” he said. “We’re in the early stages, but I think we’ll have additional items for the CPAP sleep market by the end of 2019.”
