Bill Griffin for office?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Provider Bill Griffin hasn't thrown his hat into the political ring yet, but he's certainly prepared when the time comes.

Griffin, president and CEO of Charlotte, N.C.-based Griffin Home Health Care, in December completed a program through the Institute of Political Leadership, a non-partisan research and educational program aimed at improving the quality of politics in North Carolina.

“The whole hope is that we can get closer to working together as political colleagues and move away from partisan politics,” he said. “So many politicians get into politics maybe for the wrong reason.”

The 10-week program included planning and funding campaigns; filming TV commercials; visiting with political figures; and completing a “budget busters” exercise that involved trying to balance North Carolina's budget.

“Those of us going through the exercise probably know more about North Carolina's budget than many of the people in our general assembly,” said Griffin. “That's a bit scary.”

Griffin said his background as a business owner would serve him well as a lawmaker.

“I've been doing what I am doing for almost 30 years,” said Griffin. “There's no reason I couldn't move in a different direction and hopefully be instrumental in helping the industry in moving forward."
