AdvaCare builds on opportunities

UNIONTOWN, Pa. - A contract with a sleep lab was the driver behind AdvaCare Home Services opening a new location here.

The lab had already contracted with AdvaCare to service its patients in Bridgeville, Pa., so when it approached the provider about servicing Uniontown, that's where President and CEO Tammy Zelenko set her sights.

"I'd been asking myself, where's our next location, where's our next location?'" she said. "The contract triggered me to say, 'OK, this makes sense.'"

AdvaCare plans to hold a grand opening this summer for the 2,500-square-foot location, which opened in March.

The Uniontown location is AdvaCare's fourth location--its third retail store.

The location has the same look and feel as AdvaCare's other retail stores, but Zelenko made a few tweaks this time around, like expanding the areas for respiratory and compression products.

"The layout is the same, the colors are the same, which makes it so much easier," Zelenko said. "But you learn as you go, so you make things more efficient."

While reimbursement cuts and competitive bidding have many providers shifting into neutral, Zelenko disagrees.

"I have to show that, as a leader, we have opportunities and we can build on them," she said. "We can't sit back and wait. That's not who I am."
