AAHomecare: Time to 'raise awareness' on bid delay

WASHINGTON - AAHomecare is urging its members to ask lawmakers to support a one-year delay of Round 2021 of the competitive bidding program.

While CMS and HHS have provided financial relief and relaxed requirements to help the HME industry respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, they have not halted plans to move forward with the latest round of the program on Jan. 1, 2021.

“(We) believe it is time to raise awareness of the impacts of moving forward with the bidding program on Capitol Hill and (are) asking suppliers to contact their senators and representatives with this request,” the association stated in a bulletin.

A recent Dobson & DaVanzo survey shows HME providers have experience higher costs, supply chain disruptions, and new operational challenges and requirements in the wake of the pandemic.

AAHomecare says the delay would help to recognize how HME providers have treated patients with COVID-19 and other respiratory challenges in their homes and have continued to provide the full spectrum of HME products, supplies, and related services that reduce the burdens on hospitals, as well as nursing care and senior living facilities.
